Tim Dean is the James M. Benson Professor in English and a professor at the Unit for Criticism and Interpretative Theory at the University of Illinois, Urbana–Champaign. His research work covers a wide range of interests, from psychoanalysis to poetry and poetics, from modern and contemporary Literature to Queer Theory. He is the author of several renowned works on these subjects, such as Gary Snyder and the American Unconscious (1991), Beyond Sexuality (2000) and Unlimited Intimacy: Reflections on the Subculture of Barebacking (2009),all published by the University of Chicago Press. For the same publisher, he also co-edited the collection Homosexuality and Psychoanalysis (2001). He is currently working on his new book, Hatred of Sex, coauthored with Oliver Davis and forthcoming from the University of Nebraska Press.
